Work in progress for the 12th edition of the 151 Miglia – Trofeo Cetilar

3 MIN 22 December 2020

This famous offshore regatta scheduled for Sunday 30 May, 2021 will unite the fleet in a single port, Livorno, for the start line. The IOR Legend Trophy is one of a number of exciting new features. Enrolments open on February 1st at www.151miglia.it.

Everyone is ready to take to the waves again following the cancellation of last year’s edition. The eleventh event, which took place in the rather more unusual guise of “151 Miglia at home”, a ‘homemade’ video clip masterfully put together with contributions received from the regatta’s many friends, took the web by storm. Organisers are already back at work for this 2021 edition of the 151 Miglia – Trofeo Cetilar.

Sunday 30 May 2021 is the date to save. The day that the offshore regatta, which in just over ten years, has become the most important in the Mediterranean by number of both observers and participants, will begin again. A record event – 220 boats left the starting line in 2019, and 250 the number of those ready to compete last May before the event had to be cancelled. The 2021 edition is promising lots of surprises.

The first of these is the decision to unite the whole fleet in Livorno for a single starting port, a return to its origins made possible thanks to the efforts of the Organising Committee who has succeeded in guaranteeing moorings within the port of Livorno for the entire fleet. All participants will, therefore, enjoy simplified logistics, as the office, the briefing meeting and all scheduled events, from the Crew Party, which traditionally takes place prior to the regatta – a route of 151 miles from the start to Marina di Pisa, the island of Giraglia and the Formiche of Grosseto, before concluding at Punta Ala – will all take place in Livorno.

“There will be two ports for the next edition of the 151 Miglia: Livorno and Punta Ala. As the 151 always guarantees space to all participants, in order to respond to demand for mooring, over the next few months we will assess availability in nearby ports so that everything can run as smoothly as possible”, explains Roberto Lacorte, President of the Repubblica Marinara di Pisa Yacht Club, the association which organises the regatta with Punta Ala Yacht Club and Livorno Yacht Club, and with the collaboration of Marina di Punta Ala and partner, PharmaNutra S.p.A. with Cetilar®.

“As the situation in 5 months or so is as yet unclear, we are currently unable to launch the final programme of parallel events, which are seen as real strong points for our regatta. We do know that the 151 Miglia will apply all government health regulations as well as those recommended by the Federazione Italiana Vela concerning regatta management. With this in mind, if and when it becomes possible to arrange events which reflect the style and nature of the 151 Miglia, we will start plans in Livorno and in Punta Ala, and participants will be immediately informed”, adds Alessandro MasiniPresident of the Punta Ala Yacht Club.

“These are our intentions and we will do everything possible to make this 151 Miglia just the same as the previous ones, with a great social programme where the Crew Party, at a new, soon-to-be-unveiled location in Livorno, will be top of the list”, concludes President of Livorno Yacht Club, Gian Luca Conti. “It must be made firmly clear that any and all decisions will be guided by sense and strict adherence to regulations, both core elements of our actions”.

Enrolments to the 151 Miglia 2021, at www.151miglia.it, are due to open on February 1st, but we already have 116 participating boats, as those who did not request reimbursement of last year’s fee automatically become participants this year. There are a number of new features to this year’s programme including the introduction of the Notice of Race for the IOR Legend category reserved for vintage boats, which will compete for a special trophy.
