Obiettivo3 back on track for the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics

Two months after the feat in Santa Maria di Leuca following Alex Zanardi’s accident, the athletes of the Obiettivo3 team, which also counts on the support of the Cetilar® brand, will be back together again for the first time. They will all be in Padua, the traditional campus organised at the OIC centre in the Mandria district, from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September. The meeting will not only help to further consolidate this already very close group, but will also be an opportunity to reflect on the season affected by the pandemic, when, one by one, all the official races were cancelled.

One year exactly before the start of the Tokyo Paralympics, the athletes are already looking forward to the start of the 2021 season, when the engines will be revving once more and the race will be on for the last tickets available for the Japanese games. But this is only one of the many aspects characterising Obiettivo3, the project founded in 2017 by Alex Zanardi to recruit, initiate and support disabled persons in sporting activities. The recruitment will continue on Saturday afternoon at the OIC sports facilities, which will open its doors to all potential athletes hoping to join the Obiettivo3 team.

From 2.30 pm to 7.00 pm, the coaches and staff of O3 will be welcoming all the disabled people wishing to try for the team, and will be giving advice and testing the vehicles for initiation to the various disciplines, particularly para-cycling and para-triathlon. Anyone dreaming of a future in paralympic sports should therefore come to the OIC Centre on Saturday 5 September from 2.30 pm.

“We needed to get together, face to face,” explains Obiettivo3 coach Pierino Dainese. “We want to give a positive signal to all athletes that the project is continuing and is ready to welcome new recruits. We really hope that our efforts can help Alex, and that he is proud of what we are doing”.
